Non-Emergency Medical Transport: Top Motor Coach Medical Transport FAQs
At MedFlight911, most of our medical transports are via air ambulance or commercial air medical transport. But we also offer another medical transport option: a medically equipped motor coach. Our motor coach transports work much like our air medical services, but there are some differences, so we thought we'd take the time to answer a few frequently asked questions about motor coach medical transport services.
Who is a good candidate for motor coach medical transport? This type of non-emergency medical transportation is an option for patients who are medically stable and meet certain physical requirements. It's not for people who are in critical condition and need emergency transportation.
Why not just travel by air? Isn't that easier? At MedFlight911, most of our medical transports are done via air. But sometimes, for a variety of reasons, air medical transport isn't the best option for the patient – perhaps because of accessibility of the patient’s location or cost (often, the motor coach medical transport is much more affordable).
Sometimes, it's simply more comfortable for a patient to travel via a relatively spacious motor coach rather than an air ambulance or commercial airliner. We evaluate each patient’s individual situation and then suggest the form of medical transport that we think would best meet their needs.
How much does motor coach medical transport cost? The cost for motor coach medical transport service depends on a number of factors, including the destination, distance, and the patient's medical needs. However, ground transportation is typically a more affordable option than an air ambulance.
What kind of vehicle will I be traveling in? Patients who choose our motor coach medical escort services travel via comfortable motor coach. Depending on her condition, the patient will ride in either a bed in the motor coach stateroom or sit in a passenger chair – or both. One advantage of traveling by motor coach is that the patient will have more flexibility in where and how she travels.
Will I be traveling alone? No! Our experienced medical crew will accompany you along each step of your journey, from when you leave your original location to when you arrive at your destination. The medical staff on a motor coach transport typically includes a nurse and/or paramedic, in addition to the driver(s) of course.
Can a family member or friend travel with me? Absolutely. We want you to be as comfortable as possible during your trip. All our patients are welcome to have a friend or family member travel with them on the motor coach. We can also accommodate a small pet.
Will I be able to bring any luggage? Of course. Our crew will be able to safely stow any luggage you may have in either the coach's exterior compartments or interior closets.
Will the driver need to stop and rest? No; on long trips, you will have more than one driver to accommodate straight through driving.
Are there bathroom facilities? Yes. Motor coaches used by MedFlight911 have private restroom facilities.
Will food be available during the trip? Yes. Snacks and drinks will be available while you're one the road. The coach will also stop periodically for breaks, during which meals may be provided depending on availability and timing. If you have special dietary concerns, let us know before the trip and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
