JetBlue's New Lie-Flat Seats Could Mean More Comfortable Trips for Patients Needing Air Medical Escorts
Flying commercially with medical needs can be challenging. An air medical escort can make sure a patient is comfortable, safe, and that their medical needs are being properly met, all within the crowded and sometimes turbulent confines of a commercial airliner. That's why I let out a big cheer when I heard that JetBlue would be adding lie-flat seats on some of its longer domestic flights.
JetBlue plans to install the lie-flat seats on its new Airbus A321 jets, which will initially fly on non-stop, transcontinental trips between New York and San Francisco and New York and Los Angeles. (The airline will also be adding some "single suite" seats with a door for passengers who want increased privacy.) The new seats will also feature a built-in massage function and other amenities.
While JetBlue is rolling out these premium seating options to meet the demand of its more elite customers, the lie-flat seats could be a welcome feature for anyone flying with a medical condition that makes sitting for long periods of time painful or unsafe. And having more seating options on domestic flights will offer more capabilities for air medical escorts, increasing the potential to include patients that would not have been viable with a semi reclining seat. This will increase MedFlight911's ability to find safe, comfortable ways to get our patients from Point A to Point B. These premium seats will feature more room, which will mean a more comfortable flight for the patient, while allowing the medical escort to see to the patients needs and help them get on and off the aircraft. All-in-all, we're very pleased with this development, and hope that lie-flat seats become an option on more domestic flights in the future.
JetBlue hopes to have the lie-flat seats available on its flights beginning next spring. But it isn't the only airline that offer lie-flat seating on domestic routes. American, Delta, and United have also rolled out or plan to introduce such features on their popular long-distance routes. Lie-flat seats are also a common feature in first-class and business-class cabins on international flights.
Of course, our air medical escorts are able to provide support whether you're flying on an international flight, long domestic flight, or multi-leg journey, with or without lie-flat seats. Just give us a call and one of our transport specialists will explain what we do and how we can help you or a loved one travel safe.
