Air Medical Escort Helps a Father Spend His Final Months with Family
Last year, we shared Sandy and Joe's story with you. When Joe was visiting family in South Carolina, he fell ill and was ultimately diagnosed with aggressive leukemia. Joe wanted to return home to Idaho, but his family – including daughter Sandy – didn't think it would be safe for him to travel without medical assistance.
Desperate to find a way to get her father back to Idaho, Sandy eventually found her way to the MedFlight911 website. She placed a call, and within a few days she, her mother, and her father were on their way home, with a MedFlight911 air medical escort there to help them on every step of their journey. To the relief of the family, the trip came off without a hitch, and at the end of the 12-hour day of traveling, Joe was safe in his bed at home.
Sadly, Sandy contacted us recently to let us know that her father had passed away in January. She explained that after he was first diagnosed, her father was afraid that he would never get to go home again. Because of all the efforts of the MedFlight911 team – from the medical escort to our medical transport specialists – Joe was able to get home safely and spend his last months surrounded by his family and friends.
Sandy expressed her gratitude for all our efforts to help her family. "I'm truly grateful for God hooking us up with MedFlight911," she told us. While Joe and his family were anxious and afraid about traveling, especially considering Joe's fragile medical condition, MedFlight911 eased all their concerns. It was an "extraordinary experience" said Sandy. "You are the type of people I like to be around and work with," she added.
We are so sorry for Sandy and her family's loss. But it warms our hearts to hear about the role we played in helping Joe spend his final months at home and close to those who loved him most. Thanks so much to Sandy and her family for letting us be part of their lives.
