24 Hours on the Road: A Medical Motor Coach Trip from California to Montana
One of our most recent medical transports almost didn't happen. When Chris realized that his 93-year-old grandmother could no longer safely live on her own, his first thought was to try to drive her from her home in Orange County, California, to where he lived in Great Falls, Montana, by himself. At the time, he didn't even realize that medical transport services like those offered by MedFlight911 were an option.
Of course, it didn't take Chris long to figure out that he couldn't safely move his grandmother on his own, especially since she had severe back problems that made it difficult for her to get around. That's what led him to Google, in search of an alternative to the do-it-yourself option. The first medical transport company he called wasn't able to help him, but they did suggest that he call MedFlight911. "They knew I would be in good hands," says Chris. "That a competitor spoke so highly of MedFlight911 was a real testament to the company."
Chris was understandably a little stressed about the whole process of getting his grandmother to Montana, both about the logistics of the trip and the cost. The professionals at MedFlight911 helped on both counts. Not only did they identify the most cost-effective solution (they even tried to combine his grandmother's transport with another trip, though ultimately scheduling issues made that impossible), but someone was always there to answer Chris's questions and address his concerns.
Once the details of the trip had been ironed out, Chris and his grandmother enjoyed door-to-door service. The three MedFlight911 crew members helped transfer the patient from her home to the medical motor coach, and then they were on the way. For a woman who hadn't left Orange County in roughly 15 years, the first few hours of the trip were a real treat. And she got along great with the entire medical crew, who did everything they could to make sure that her trip was comfortable.
The trip was a long one, so the medical motor coach crew drove in shifts. Chris stayed awake the entire time to help keep them company, and, toward the end, help them navigate Montana's twisty roads. The weather wasn't great, with lots of snow and ice, but the MedFlight911 crew took the extra care that was needed to see that everyone arrived safely.
After a day-long drive, they finally arrived at the care facility in Montana. The MedFlight911 team helped Chris's grandmother get settled in her new home and then said a fond goodbye. Chris couldn't have more positive words to say about the entire experience: "You couldn't ask for a better crew."
